Description
The long awaited reschedule of Dr Richard Hoggett’s guided tour of Bury St Edmunds Abbey with West Stow Anglo Saxon Village on the return journey.
The Abbey Gardens are the site of the Anglo-Saxon and medieval monastery of St Edmund, one of the richest abbeys in England and site of the shrine of the martyred King Edmund. The Anglo-Saxon settlement at West Stow was extensively excavated in the 1960s and 70s, and the site then became the focus of an ongoing archaeological experiment testing different reconstructions of Anglo-Saxon buildings.
This is a whole day coach visit, leaving at 9AM from the coach bay behind John Lewis on Ber St in central Norwich, and expecting to return there by 5.30PM.
There will be a lunch break in Bury, where you will find plenty of options for food. There is also an excellent café at West Stow. There are 35 seats available, and tickets for the day cost £25.
