Description

We will be looking at churches in the Bure Valley to the north of Norwich. We are planning to visit the churches associated with the twin villages of Corpusty and Saxthorpe in the morning. In the afternoon we will visit Heydon with its splendid wall paintings.

All the churches ell us something about how the church communities adapted these buildings to the social needs of the time. Adaptations were made that reflected developing perceptions about relationships within the church community and changing tastes over time.

During the course of the day, we will be looking at the landscape setting for the churches we visit as well as the social background of the local community. Changes in ecclesiology also affected the architecture, the art, and layout of contemporary church design in the buildings we will be considering.

Further details about the day confirming the churches to be visited and the timetable will be sent to participants nearer the time. The day will be led by Dr Brendan Chester-Kadwell

There are 15 places available.
We want to encourage car-sharing for this excursion to reduce the parking pressure at the churches, so with permission we will put participants in touch with one another, and a detailed itinerary will be supplied in due course.

£10 to cover donations to the churches
